Have you noticed all the comic book references creeping up in our daily lives lately?
Part of a marketer's job is to identify trends in popular culture and hypothesize how these will affect the efforts they're trying to achieve, or impact the mindset of the consumers they're speaking to. In the past I've written about how music and hip-hop culture have impacted marketing and content development, along with skateboarding culture and how it's woven into the fabric of our daily lives, but the next important trend I'm seeing is the continued growth and expansion of comic book culture. Only Four Percent of TV Viewing Recorded According to new consumer research from Leichtman Research Group, VOD is now in 25 million digital cable homes, and 60 percent of digital cable subscribers have used VOD, up from 25 percent two years ago. The research firm says, however, that the overall impact of DVRs and VOD on US television viewing remains small. | PEPSICO WILL TREAT THE PACKAGING of its flagship Pepsi Cola like a media play next year, and has 35 variations planned to rotate every few weeks.
Dawn Hudson, chief executive of Pepsi-Cola North America, described the "choreography" packaging yesterday at a day-long meeting for investors, in which senior company executives discussed key initiatives for the coming year and unveiled a flurry of new products, many of them carrying a distinct "health and wellness" positioning. Hudson said Pepsi wants to focus more on product innovation and creating consumer demand, while backing away from price promotion. [read more] |

| BANKING CUSTOMERS MAY ONE DAY soon find it possible to check balances, review transactions or be alerted of fraud on their mobile phone.
Yodlee Inc. yesterday said that in response to demand from its financial services clients, it would begin to market a mobile application called Yodlee Mobile in early 2007 that would make such on-the-go functionality possible.
The oddly named software provider in Redwood, Calif. offers a suite of products to allow both online bill payment and so-called account aggregation that allows customer data from multiple sources to be viewed and analyzed. Its clients include Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Ameriprise Financial, AOL, Fidelity Investments, Wachovia, Smith Barney and Charles Schwab. read more |

KENNETH "CASEY" KELLER WAS NAMED executive VP and CMO of Motorola yesterday, replacing the late Geoffrey Frost, who energized the company's marketing with the company's Razr line of phones.
